Crowded discos and pilgrims praying outside the Jokhang Temple, both are a common sight. Sudden change in altitude [ from the lowland Sichuan Basin the ascent is over an altitude of over 3,700 meters (12,139 ft)], requires adaptation to the climate. Explore the old town and visit Bakhor market situated at the heart of Tibet.

Day 3 Lhasa:
After having breakfast drive to Drepung Monastery, which lies 8 kilometers (4.96 miles) west of Lhasa. The monastery, erected in 1416 has miraculously survived the civil wars and the Cultural Revolution. It is still the most important and largest monastic university in Tibet where 700 monks resides in the sprawling 20,000-sqm complex. Here you can alight from your car to join a group of pilgrims. Mapori it is a 13-storey architectural wonder having more than 1,000 rooms. At this place you will be in the company of numerous pilgrims. After having lunch start for an overland drive along the old road that leads to high altitude lake of Yamdrok Tso. Halt at a picnic tea lake at Yamdrok Tso (4408 meters); here enjoy princer-shaped expanse of turquoise water, with the presence of mysterious Mt. Donang Sangwari (5,340meters) on the peninsula beyond, and the snow peaks of Nojin Gangzang (7,191meters) looming in the distance. Several Tibetans are of the belief that the life of Tibet will no longer persist when the lake dries up. Hike around the lake before you continue driving across the narrow Karo-La pass to descend to Gyantse.
