Vegetation in Kalakkadu Sanctuary

The climate is dry humid and hot at plains and pleasant cold in the higher elevations. Annual rainfall occurring in the region ranges from 1000 mm to 4000mm.
Forest type in the region ranges from tropical wet evergreen forests to tropical dry deciduous forests in the foothills and to thorn forests in the lower regions. The forest types in the region have been classified as Southern hill top tropical evergreen forests, West Coast tropical evergreen forests, Southern moist mixed deciduous forests, Ochlandra reed forests, Carnatic umbrella thorn forests, Tropical Riparian Fringe Forests, Southern Euphorsia scrub, and Southern thorn scrub.
A diverse variety of animals and birds inhabit these distinct geographical regions of Kalakkadu sanctuary in Western Ghats.
