Wildlife in Kalakkadu Sanctuary
Kalakkadu Wild Life Sanctuary is spread over an extensive lush green area of 223 sq km in the foothills of Western Ghats and the adjoining areas. It is located at a distance of 47km from Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India. It was in 1962 that the area of the Kalakkadu Reserve was declared a Tiger sanctuary and in 1976 it was notified as a. Kalakkadu Wild Life Sanctuary is also famous for a wide range of birds, amphibians and reptiles like cobra, common krait, russels, viper, monitor lizard, garden lizard, tortoise, crocodiles, and many other interesting creatures.
